Liviu | Cultural Broker & Anthropologist
I’m a Romanian anthropologist, journalist and cultural broker based in Tarragona, Spain. My professional life has taken me through journalism, media, healthcare and cultural engagement, with more than 25 years of experience in communication and nearly a decade working within the British healthcare system.
I spent twelve years living in the United Kingdom, where I worked as a Cultural Engagement Officer at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Birmingham Women’s Hospital. My work brought me into contact with people from many different countries, languages and cultural backgrounds. It gave me extensive experience of working across cultural differences and a practical understanding of how institutions function, communicate and respond to people whose experiences and expectations may differ from their own.
My academic background includes a degree in Media Production from Coventry University and a Master’s degree in Urban Anthropology, Migration and Social Intervention from Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Spain. Alongside my academic work, I have maintained a long career in journalism and radio, fields that have taught me the importance of clear communication, careful listening and understanding different perspectives.
Having lived and worked in Romania, the United Kingdom and Spain, I also understand the practical challenges of moving between countries. Learning how a new system works, dealing with unfamiliar procedures or communicating with institutions can require considerably more than speaking another language.
This is where my work as a cultural broker comes in.
I provide practical guidance, language assistance and cultural context to people who are studying, working, relocating or settling into a new country. My work may involve helping an international student understand the process of renting accommodation in Spain, assisting someone with communication at a public institution, or guiding a foreign resident through unfamiliar administrative procedures in Romania.
I work with individuals who need reliable information, a clearer understanding of their options or someone to accompany them through a particular situation. Depending on the circumstances, assistance can be provided through individual online consultations, telephone conversations or in-person appointments in the Tarragona area.
Cultural Broker brings together my professional experience, academic knowledge and familiarity with three different countries. It is an independent service built around a straightforward principle: understanding a new country becomes easier when you have someone who knows the language, understands the context and can help you find your way through its systems.
